Can you feel it? That little shift in the air? We’re still basking in August sunshine, but there’s a gentle whisper of autumn starting to make itself known.
This year’s heatwaves meant that summer arrived early, and it feels like everything bloomed ahead of schedule. Gardens were bursting with colour weeks sooner than expected with trees looming larger than ever with their dense green leaves.
But now, nature is slowly changing her outfit. Flowers are taking on a richer, deeper feel. Dahlias are having their big moment, with their velvety petals and jewel like colours, seed heads and grasses are beginning to add that gorgeous late summer texture. You might have noticed the hedgerows too, full to the brim with berries. Apples hanging heavy on the branches, blackberries just begging to be picked, and elderberries glowing in the hedges…
What I love most about this time of year is the transition. It’s not summer one day and autumn the next, it’s a slow, delicious blending of the two. We still have warm, golden evenings to enjoy, but the mornings feel a little fresher. The light is softer, the colours are deeper, and everything just feels that tiny bit more abundant. It’s such a beautiful season to soak up. I always try to remind myself not to rush it, just enjoy the changes as they unfold. If I’m honest, I love the transition between spring and summer along with the beautiful mix of flowers from the two seasons. But autumn, especially September, is my favourite. I love the watery warm sunlight as it dapples through the trees as they show the rusty oranges and reds in their leaves just waiting to fall.
And if, like me, you’re inspired by the colours and textures of autumn, I’ve got something lovely for you, or more accurately two lovely things: my Autumn Vase Arrangement Workshop at Society Café, and my Autumn Tablescape Workshop at The Greenway Hotel & Spa, are now live on my website and open for booking. They’re all about embracing the season, bringing those rich tones, berries, seed heads and seasonal blooms into your home in a beautiful way.
So, while summer is still hanging on with all its sunshine, autumn is gently glimmering through and I can’t wait to celebrate it with you. Please visit the link below to secure your autumn tickets!
